The truth is always the best policy. If you don’t agree that telling the truth is the only acceptable option, then I don’t trust you or want you in any position of power. The story from Kansas below is, in my opinion, Epic Morality Fail on the part of our legislators.
I know that it’s easier to just legislate your lies into law by brute force when you can’t back your position up with cold hard facts, because telling the truth and treating women like human beings is just so damn inconvenient. However, if you can’t get the job done without lying your ass off, then maybe you need to re-think what you are fighting for and why, and come up with a new argument?
The same men who run the church, are the same men who are spending millions of dollars on attacking planned parenthood and telling monstrous lies about the organization – the majority of their services are cancer screenings, pap smears, breast exams, birth control, std testing, and other important services for women without health insurance) … as well as passing personhood amendments and trying to introduce other types of morality laws in this country.
The Catholics apparently see no problem with their priests molesting tens of thousands of children, and all of the past and present popes and bishops have spent lots of time and money covering these crimes up and moving priests around to new and unsuspecting communities to help them find more victims over the years…
Yet, knowing this, they still want us to believe that sex education, gay sex, birth control, condoms, and abortion are the worst, most vile evils we face in this country today? So evil that they are worth lying about in order to get their own personal religious beliefs legislated into law, completely disrespecting the portion of the taxpaying, voting population that does not share their religious viewpoints?
Why does everything the Republicans do lately seem to be about forcing women into sexual submission, and forced pregnancy of poor women by any means necessary? Why does everyone seem to think that telling lies to get what they want is normal and OK? Hey, people, wake up, telling lies is never OK. It just makes you a liar. The truth will set you free. If you can’t get people to do what you want without telling shameful lies, then maybe you’re the one who is wrong?
Why don’t we force men who father children but don’t care for them to have vasectomies, or better yet, to get an invasive anal probe every time they father another child they have no intention of caring or paying for? We don’t stop deadbeat dads from filling their viagra prescriptions, nor do we debate whether their health insurance should be paying for their viagra and cialis prescriptions.
Why don’t we send priests to jail when they molest children? Why doesn’t anyone care about these kids after they are born? We hate abortion, but the moment we are born, all we ever hear from society after that is “take care of yourself, you lazy freeloading bastards, society doesn’t owe you a damn thing and we don’t much care if you live or die as long as you don’t bother us while you’re doing it”…
Hypocrisy. Cognitive Dissonance. Irrational. Illogical. Epic Morality Fail.
People die of starvation and poverty every single day around the world. Poverty is a manmade thing that could be solved if we really tried. TRUE pro-life is loving and caring for people who have already been born. If you scorn people who are alive and deny them lifesaving medical care for an easily treatable condition because they are poor and you believe in capitalism; or don’t care that people starve to death because there are too many people and not enough money to buy them all food (while un-used food rots in warehouses all over the world)… then you are not pro-life.
Meanwhile the pope sits in his priceless gold throne wearing his jeweled crown and other priceless artifacts, grinning like a demon, deliberately covering up sex scandals for pedophile priests… and tells starving people who are dying of AIDS that condoms are evil… I just don’t believe that you can seriously call yourself PRO-LIFE if that is really your stance. Yes, I’m talking to you, pope.
The most cynical part of me can’t help but think that the vatican just wants to force poor people around the world to churn out more children so the pedophile priests have a larger pool of kids to prey on??
The day that the Vatican pays taxes on their income like everyone else, and willingly turns over evidence and priests to police in every country of the world so their victims can finally have justice… is the day I will reconsider my longtime opinion that the Catholic church is little more than a giant money-laundering pedophile ring / super PAC who illegally influences secular politics and the secular educational system with its’ tax-free money, violating both the spirit and the letter of the law in the USA and many other countries. They don’t care to obey laws against child abuse or tax evasion, they refuse to let the secular courts deal with pedophile priests and other crimes committed by clergy. Clearly, they don’t respect the social and moral contracts that the rest of us “ordinary people” inherently know it’s right to follow. The church only wants to make laws for the rest of us that they won’t follow themselves.
Well, throw off your chains people. Don’t send your kids to priests without constant adult supervision, and don’t let a bunch of hypocritical tax evaders from foreign countries influence the laws in our country. If you want to legislate morality, take a look at how well that is working for the Taliban and the people they terrorize in the name of forcing their own personal beliefs on entire countries… the Taliban is ruining the entire world. Because of them, you can’t get on an airplane (and soon train or freeway) without invasive, humiliating strip searches by the TSA. Religious oppression affects us all in many ways, both obvious and subtle. And yet, here we are in 2012, legislating catholic morality into law in the so-called “land of the free and home of the brave”. It’s not just a slogan you know… we actually used to be free and brave… now apparently we’re a nation who passes laws forcing doctors to lie to patients “for their own good”???
IF GOD DOESN’T LIKE ABORTION, LET HIM DEAL WITH IT. I can’t understand why an all-knowing, all-seeing, all-powerful entity who can part seas and set bushes on fire and whatnot… can’t just do its’ own bidding? If it hates gays, why create gays? if it hates abortion, why doesn’t it force men to be responsible fathers? If it doesn’t like something, why doesn’t it come down here and say so or strike us all with lightning or something? If it gave us free will, then why do mere human mortals need to pass laws to take that free will away by force? If it created free will, and gay people, and everything else, then who the hell are you to say that no one is allowed to have free will, or gay sex, or anything else? Don’t tell me that only a few people “speak” to it and know what it wants. These same few people who claim to know what it wants, are the ones molesting children and/or covering up and enabling other priests to do so. If this all-knowing, all-seeing, all-powerful being will only speak directly to a select group of wealthy, powerful pedophiles who feel lying for a “good cause” is justified, then anything it has to say is suspect. Just saying.
